Random BS

Because I’m bored I decided to blog about my desktop. I absolutely can’t stand clutter on it, but I have files that I like to be able access quickly. Until recently the only thing I could do was deal with it.

When I started working with the MAC computers I absolutely fell in love with the dock that comes standard with it. I started researching on the internet. I wanted to find one that I could download for my Windows PC.

I came across several different programs, and ultimately decided to use three. While the ones on the left and right remain hidden thanks to an Auto Hide feature, the main one I use stays up. If you’re looking for something to give your desktop a cleaner look, and still have access to all your frequently used programs I recommend downloading a dock.

My Current Desktop

Object Dock

By far the best of the three, is used as my top dock, and most frequently used. It offers the most customization, as well as ease of use. My Object Dock contains my most frequently used programs. Such as my messengers, music player, and programs that I use for web design.

Rocket Dock

When I decided I needed another dock for organizational purposes, I downloaded this dock at the recommendation of a coworker. It doesn’t have the customization of Object Dock, is still just as useful. This dock is on the left side of my screen and used for all the games I frequently play, that do not require visiting a website to play.

Moby Dock

After I downloaded Rocket Dock, I decided I needed on more dock to organize my desktop stuff the way I wanted to. By far better than many others Moby Dock has many features such as accessing pop email, (which is not a feature I need). The customization features aren’t as great. I haven’t found a way to remove certain standard docks, but none the less I’ve found a way to make those options useful. I use the dock on the right for quick access to My Documents, My Music, and My Pictures.

With the combination of the three docks, and a bit of creative folder combinations I was able to completely rid my desktop of unwanted items, and quick launch shortcuts from my task bar. The end result is an extremely stream line system at the click of one button. While some of the docks are better than others I do recommend each of these programs. One of them just might be exactly what you are looking for.

  1. Wow… thanks for these recommendations, I’m going to download the object and moby docks and see how they go. I’m not a real game person so I don’t think the rocket dock will do any good for me. But thanks a ton!

  2. I also hate having clutter on my desktop. That’s why I try to clear away any programs that I am not really using and have a shortcut in the start menu instead.

Hmm…those are interesting recommendations you have! Thanks for sharing. I will definitely take a look.

  3. Wow! Thanks. I love the first dock and I downloaded it!

  5. Those are great tips! I’ve been wanting a dock for ages but I haven’t taken the time to look into which ones are good. I’ll download stardock asap now. :)

  7. Wow, thanks. I could actually use something like these programs. I have this thing about my desktop too. I try to keep it neat but then I start putting things on it that I use frequently and it ends up getting cluttered and I hate it. Thanks again!

  8. sounds cool. I’ve found that I don’t use my desktop hardly at all anymore. I just go to start and get to my programs that way. All the ones I use the most are right there anyways.

  9. Wow, that’s really cool. I’ve never heard of docks yet. Thanks for the tip. Maybe this would make my desktop neat. At last. :)

  10. Im so messy with my desktop, but Im getting a new computer soon and am most definately going to keep it organised.

Thanks for the recommendations. I wrote them down :)

  11. I can’t stand clutter on my desktop either. I don’t understand how people can do it.
I have tried the first dock before, and once tried making my desktop look like a Mac, haha.

  12. Wow, that looks so much nicer! And it’s very reminiscent of the Mac desktop, too. Perhaps I will download a dock some day, as I dislike the volume of crap cluttering up my desktop…

  13. I downloaded a program (i honestly don’t know what to call it) called FlyaKiteOSX and it’s awesome. It makes my computer look like a mac, pretty much from startup to shutdown. It has object dock. Sometimes the dock annoys me and I cut if off, but I never thought about keeping one at the top or side…
